I first came across the RSFS in 1969, when I was working for the Nature Conservancy - but with FC – on a three year assessment of Red Deer damage in FC commercial woodland in the Highland Conservancy.

The society made the essential link between woodland ecology and modern economic forestry, as well as the Scottish history of forestry. One began to see the wood from the trees.  Its site visits all over Scotland and North England provide an outstanding chance to ‘get into parts which other beers to not reach’ accompanied by really good, friendly advice and technical knowhow as well as research ideas and ‘crystal balling’ - which are the stuff of real understanding.
