Description

This is the first of the new programme of RSFS Training Days in 2024.  The programme for the day is:

10am                  Arrival at Tweedsmuir village hall – Tea / Coffee and biscuits will be available.

1015-1130           Classroom session to introduce fundamental concepts.

1145-1200           Depart for nearby Tweedsmuir forest.

1200-1300           Examination of model slope to examine soil pits and see how parent material and topography influence soil formation even over short distances.

1300-1330           Lunch (bring packed lunch)

1330-1430           Soil pits in old cultivation trial to examine how cultivation has modified soil characteristics over time. (Opportunity to walk through a silver fir provenance trial from 1980’s) 

1430-1530           Soil Pits in open field as mock soil survey / woodland creation exercise - see key vegetation indicators of different soil types.

1545-1600           Close
