RSFS welcomes a new editor for its journal Scottish Forestry

We are delighted to announce that Gavin McGregor has been appointed as the editor of our journal Scottish Forestry. This year we are marking the 75th anniversary of the journal and Gavin will be the 12th editor. He takes over from Carol Crawford who has been editor since 2006. They are pictured together during the Annual Study Tour visit to Seafield Estates.

Carol is planning to spend more time developing her art practice. In recognition of her work as the editor and her contribution to the RSFS, President Simon MacGillivray presented her with two multi-lustre ceramic vases at the Society’s Annual Dinner.

Gavin McGregor comes to us with a background in both journalism and conservation management. On taking up the role of editor, Gavin said:

'After a number of years working in the food and conservation worlds, I hang up my chainsaw and boots and take up the editor’s chair with excitement and humility.

Excitement at facilitating the exchange of knowledge through a journal with such rich history in service of a sector so central to the economy, ecology and culture of Scotland, where my personal and family history stretches from Fife to the Hebrides.

Humility in stepping into the shoes of Carol Crawford, who steered Scottish Forestry through its 75-year milestone, and in acknowledging members’ expertise, commitment and graft in the face of challenges ranging from climate uncertainty to post-Brexit trade.

I hope to contribute by continuing to make Scottish Forestry a lively, essential forum for the forestry community to connect, learn, debate and progress, and I look forward to opportunities to meet you and to hearing your wishes for the future of the journal.'
