Description

Description

Morning – a visit to Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve to look at woodland, and in particular, montane scrub regeneration on the upper slopes of Beinn Ghlas. In 2023, NTS introduced controlled grazing cattle using  geo-collars within the reserve to try & break up ground vegetaion & create seed beds for further regeneration. We will have the opportunity to look at the effects of this & view the cattle on site.

Afternoon – we will visit Cambusurich Wood to look at the diverse range of conifer species planted to meet the owners objectives and discuss the ongoing silviculture of these stands. There will also be a chance to view the SSSI native woodland and discuss fencing/deer exclusion.

Outcomes

Morning – discussion on establishing montane scrub & management of controlled livestock grazing

Afternoon – managing stands of diverse conifer and their future silviculture.
