The Royal Scottish Forestry Society (RSFS) is pleased to announce the launch of Understorey, a new publication dedicated to celebrating and promoting the work of forestry students from across Scotland and Cumbria and generously supported by EGGER UK and F&W Forestry.
The inaugural edition of Understorey provides an exciting new platform for emerging voices in forestry to share their research, ideas, creativity and insights with a wide professional audience.
Designed to highlight outstanding student work and encourage knowledge exchange between established practitioners and future forestry leaders, Understorey will be distributed to RSFS members, as well as current forestry student cohorts at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and the University of Cumbria. A digital edition will also be made available through the RSFS website.
The publication will be produced to the same high standards as the Society’s respected journal, Scottish Forestry and will feature a diverse range of student contributions, including research reports, articles, posters, opinion pieces, photography, reflective writing, and poetry.

RSFS hopes the first edition will establish Understorey as an annual publication, creating a lasting platform for forestry students and strengthening connections between forestry students and the wider forestry sector.
